1st Graders Visit 2nd Grade
This morning, we were so excited to welcome the 1st graders into our 2nd grade classrooms. We invited them to come and visit so we could introduce ourselves and have our students show them around all three of our rooms. I started off my time together with the first group by sharing a slideshow of myself and my family. Next, I asked the first graders to say their first and last names and my students introduced themselves, too. I shared the note we would be sending home with them today so they can tell their parents all about their visit. After this my students paired up with a first-grade friend and offered them a seat at their desk to read the informational paper they worked on for our last writing project. My students showed their new friends how they used their Chromebook to research on Pebble Go, wrote their first draft, edited it, wrote their final draft, and then learned how to type it and insert a picture on Microsoft Word. My second graders knew when they started this project in April they would be sharing it with the first graders, so they were so excited to finally get to do that today. Before our time was almost up, my students showed their new friends around our classroom and told them some of the things they'll get to learn and do in 2nd grade. It was so fun to listen to their conversations. Some even introduced their friend to Oaklyn Bear and shared a little of her story. The purpose of this visit was to offer a smooth transition from 1st grade lower hallway to 2nd grade upper hallway. Our hope is that it strengthens the connections between teachers and students and also creates excitement for the new year to come. We look forward to meeting their families and seeing them again at our 2nd Grade Open House on Thursday, August 20th!
