Home Is Where the Habitat Is
The 2nd grade students have been learning about the importance of conservation and the role that trees and healthy soils play in habitats. In Art class, with Mrs. Ramsey, they have been working on designing their own habitat pictures. Today, Nicole Schulte, a Conservation Assistant for the Lyon County Soil and Water Conservation District, came to our school to share more information and give each student a Common Purple Lilac shrub to take home and plant in their yard. She also treated the entire 2nd grade to a pizza party with pop for everyone's participation in the conservation poster contest titled, "Home Is Where the Habitat Is". She announced that Easton Metzger's poster, in Mrs. Halma's class, was chosen for first place and Ryder Stettnichs's poster, in Mrs. Pytleski's class, was chosen for second place by the Lyon County SWCD's Commissioners. Way to go, boys! Thank you, Mrs. Ramsey and the Lyon County Soil and Water Conservation office for giving our 2nd graders the opportunity to participate, share their artistic abilities, and grow their knowledge of the importance of habitats and trees. Happy Spring!
