May The Forest Be With You Always
The 2nd grade students have been learning about the importance of conservation and the role that trees and healthy soils play in it. In Art class, with Mrs. Ramsey, they have been working on designing their own forest pictures. Last Thursday, three Lyon County Conservation representatives, Nicole Schulte, Grace Van Laren, and Alex Ahders, came to our school to share more information and give each student a Common Purple Lilac shrub to take home and plant in their yard. They also treated the entire 2nd grade to a pizza party with pop for everyone's participation in the conservation poster contest titled, "May the Forest Be With You Always". Mallory Strassburg and Kaitlyn Mulder, both in Mrs. Pytleski's class, had their posters chosen by the Lyon County SWCD's Commissioners. Way to go, girls! Thank you, Mrs. Ramsey and the Lyon County Soil and Water Conservation office for giving our 2nd graders the opportunity to participate and grow their knowledge of the importance of healthy forests and healthy communities. Happy Spring!
*as a side note, I would be remiss not to mention that today was bittersweet as we remembered how special this program was to Sheila Haspels and the joy she brought to our students while sharing her passion about conservation. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered each year when we gather for this celebration.
