Happy Newspaper Week

This afternoon Dominique Kooiker and Amy Lyon from the Lyon County Reporter stopped by to share with our 2nd graders that Newspaper Week is October 4-10. They talked about all the people it takes to create the newspaper each week, what their jobs and responsibilities are, and how they come up with ideas of what to write about. Brennex was super excited to share that his mom works at the Lyon County Reporter. Dominique and Amy encouraged everyone to keep working hard in school and maybe one day they could be a writer, editor, or graphic designer for a newspaper. Before they left, they passed out a word search and several extra copies of the Lyon County Reporter. The children were asked to find words they could read as well as pictures and names of people they knew. A few friends began highlighting lots of words and found pictures of their parents, grandmas, siblings, and themselves in the paper! Thanks for coming to share all about your career in journalism, Dominique and Amy! Reading newspapers sure is informational and fun! Happy Newspaper Week!
