Anatomage Table
The Anatomage table is a virtual dissection table that is equipped with CT and MRI scans that we can use for study. It comes with a male and female cadaver along with a multitude of special case slides and a variety of animal scans. The anatomy students recently used the table while they dissected animal hearts.
Mr. Ackerman saw an advertisement for the table in a magazine and we started researching from there. The schools grant writer put together a grant proposal for Sanford that was accepted for the amount of $12,500 and the remaining cost was covered by casino funding.
The table will be a fabulous addition to the Human anatomy class because they will be able to see the different parts of human anatomy in context. We have the ability to remove different pieces of the anatomy to get at what we are learning at any time. It will give them the opportunity to study over and over again on actual human scans. They can learn muscles, bones, organs, vessels, nerves, and more. We can dissect the cadaver over and over again.
The biology classes will also benefit at all levels; for example, this table will allow the fourth grade students to see the different systems in context while they study body systems .
Animal science can use the numerous animal scans for their class and human development will have access to fetal development scans.
We can even add our own CT or MRI scans to the table. It will be a lot of fun discovering the many different ways that we will be able to incorporate the Anatomage table into the schools curriculum.
