DGR Visit
During the second week of October, senior math and science students made a trip to DGR to explore the fields of engineering and land surveying. This is an annual event that the students really enjoy. DGR has an engineer from each department talk to the students about what goes on in their area. It is great for the students to see the variety in the engineering field. All of them are engineers but their jobs are very different.
The students also get a chance to spend 45 minutes with the land surveyors. They go outside and use two different GPS units to find little discs that are placed on DGR property. This is a great hands-on activity for the students. The surveyors explain how the GPS units work and talk about how many different satelites they can connect to at any given time.
The engineers and surveyors do an excellent job explaining the educational route you need to take to do their job. They talk about the different science and math classes that are needed along with those classes specific to their area. This was a great experience for our students and hopefully they gained a much better knowledge base about the fields of engineering and land surveying.
