Human Relations is for students who are considering going into education or just want to explore different cultures and ways of life. According to the course syllabus, this course is designed to develop an awareness of the responsibility of educators in establishing educational programs that attempt to develop a sensitivity to and understanding of the different cultural/ethnic groups found in a pluralistic society.
Objectives include becoming aware of and understanding the various values, life-styles, history, and contributions of various identifiable subgroups in our society; recognizing and dealing with dehumanizing biases such as sexism, racism, prejudice, and discrimination; translating knowledge of human relations into attitudes, skills, and techniques, which result in favorable learning experiences for students; recognizing the ways in which dehumanizing biases may be reflected in instructional materials; and respecting human diversity and the rights of each individual.
