Jolly Phonics
Students utilize a phonics program called Jolly Phonics. Jolly Phonics uses a story, an action, and a picture to help students learn the sounds. We start the school year off by introducing a letter a day for the first nine weeks. As we introduced each new letter we are able to start building words that we have been able to sound out. We then move on to some "tricky words." These sight words are "tricky" because they don't follow the rules of the sounds that we are learning. As we are learning how to read and write these words, we have work very hard on memorizing them.
