High School Musical is based on a Disney Channel Original Movie released in 2006, which was one of the most watched films of the year.  It is a very modern take on Shakespeare’s, Romeo and Juliet.

In our own Central Lyon production of this hit show, Troy Bolton (Drew Kupferschmidt), and Gabriella Montez (Claire Reiter) come from two different worlds: Troy the Basketball guy and Gabriella the Smart, Stunning Geek. When they meet at a New Year's Eve party they instantly click. When they see each other again at East High School, they decide to audition for their high school's musical. The social cliques they belong to don't approve of this new friendship and try to separate them. At the same time, drama queen Sharpay Evans (Amber Langholdt) and her brother Ryan (David Nebelsick), the co-captains of the Drama department, try in every way to prevent Troy and Gabriella from participating in the callback auditions... Can Troy and Gabriella lead their friends to a more open-minded thinking and acceptance of one another? Or will their friends win?
