Since learning styles and interests vary, career and technical education (CTE) is often an excellent choice for students who prefer hands-on learning. CTE classes are valuable to many students, but can be a lifeline for a few. CTE teachers are able, through project-based learning, to connect with students and possibly ignight an interest in a career area. Students can find most CTE classes at Central Lyon on the "north end" in the vocational agriculture, industrial technology, and family and consumer science programs. Career and technical education also includes robotics and business classes.
According to author Jasmine Author at Edmentum, Inc., students at risk of dropping out of high school can find a renewed interest in learning through CTE programs.
"Annually, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States. That means nearly one in three students fail to graduate with a diploma. For some students, dropping out is the result of low engagement—and these are the students that often thrive in a career and technical education (CTE) program. CTE can play a critical role in helping students persevere in their high school career and preparing them for postsecondary education by offering relevant learning experiences that address the question of “Why do I need to learn this?”"
