Notice Regarding Baseball & Softball

Wednesday, May 20

Dear Central Lyon Families & Staff,

I am writing to address Central Lyon’s plans following the Governor’s announcement that Iowa’s student-athletes will be allowed to return to the field of competition.

Central Lyon is planning for high school student-athletes to begin practicing baseball and softball starting Monday, June 1, with the first game to be played the week of June 15.

Next week, The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) will be issuing further guidance for schools to consider in order to maintain the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, and fans. In addition, Central Lyon has a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, with Public Health Services of Lyon County and our local partner Avera Sports Medicine.

In today’s guidance from the Iowa Department of Education there was a statement that: “in-person team organized activities for other sports remain suspended until July 1.” This means out-of-season strength and conditioning will NOT resume at Central Lyon’s weight room, track, or other outdoor facilities.

In addition, baseball and softball coaches will NOT be allowed to host in-person meetings until Monday, June 1. Students and families should continue to check their email and the Remind app on their phone for updates from Coach Docker and Coach Weiler.

We will continue to share more information as our team further develops Central Lyon’s plan to Return to Play along with our partners, Public Health Services of Lyon County and Avera Sports Medicine.

Onward Lions,

Brent Jorth
